INTEGRATIVE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE DOCTOR · SYDNEY

Mojo Klinik · Neutral Bay · Tue to Fri

Dr Emmanuel Varipatis.

The doctor who asks the questions everyone else stopped asking.

WHAT DR VARIPATIS IS KNOWN FOR CLINICALLY

The complex. The chronic. The unexplained.

The presentations where the standard diagnostic framework has produced a label without an adequate mechanism, or where symptoms have persisted despite multiple rounds of conventional treatment. He works with patients seeking an integrative doctor in Sydney who treats environmental medicine as a clinical discipline. That is the territory he has worked in for four decades.

Dr Varipatis on getting your mojo back

In a complex chronic case, mojo does not go missing for no reason. Something in the body has shifted, and almost always there is a measurable cause.

His work is to find what has been missed. The exposure no one has asked about. The infection that has not been investigated. The mechanism the standard workup has not tested for.

That is usually where the answer is.

FIT CHECK

Is Dr Varipatis the right doctor for you?

YES — THIS IS FOR YOU

THIS MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT FIT

HOW I WORK WITH YOU

Four principles define every consultation.

Dr Emmanuel Varipatis graduated MBBS from the University of New South Wales in 1979. He has been in continuous private medical practice since 1984. Over four decades, he has built a
clinical depth that few Australian doctors hold. Formal postgraduate credentialing across nutritional medicine, environmental medicine, lifestyle medicine, and clinical metal toxicology, applied within a rigorous evidence-informed medical framework. He is one of a small number of Australian doctors awarded the FIBCMT fellowship by the International Board of
Clinical Metal Toxicology (2001-2012). The body is no longer in operation.

01 Detailed exposure history

Occupational, dental, dietary,
environmental. Most appointments never include these questions. They change the investigation.

02 Mechanism-led thinking

The biological process, not the
label. The label may just be the
starting point.

03 Direct, clear communication

No comfortable explanations when honest ones are available. You will know what is happening in your body and why the plan is built the way it is.

04 Evidence over expectation

No chelation without testing. No
integrative care that replaces
conventional treatment. Investigation comes before
intervention, every time.

"My approach has not fundamentally changed in forty years. The tools have improved. I still take a detailed history. I still think carefully about mechanism before I recommend treatment. I still believe the most important thing I can do for a patient is understand what is actually happening in the body, rather than which category the symptom pattern fits into."

CLINICAL FOCUS

What Dr Varipatis treats.

His practice is centred on the presentations that need the deepest investigation.

One of the most clinically distinctive areas of his practice. He is one of a small number of doctors in Australia awarded the FIBCMT fellowship by the International Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology during its years of operation (2001-2012). The body is no longer in existence. He assesses heavy metal burden using provoked urine testing, which provides a more accurate picture of total body metal accumulation than that provided by standard blood tests which detect only acute exposure. Chelation protocols are individually prescribed and matched to each patient’s metal profile. Concurrent essential mineral replacement and renal
function monitoring throughout. His chelation practice is underpinned by the international clinical literature on metal toxicology, his fellowship training with the International Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology during its years of operation, and over three decades of personal clinical experience.

"Heavy metal toxicity is one of the most underdiagnosed conditions in integrative medicine, partly because the right test is not the one most doctors order. A standard blood test for mercury or lead reflects what is in the blood right now. It does not reflect what is stored in bone and tissue. The provoked urine test gives a different picture. In a patient with unexplained fatigue or neurological symptoms that have not responded to standard management, that picture is often the missing piece."

Recurrent sinusitis. Chronic urinary tract infection. Prostatitis. Other biofilm-related infections. Biofilm, the protective matrix that allows bacterial communities to persist despite antibiotic treatment, is rarely considered in standard short-course antibiotic management. Dr Varipatis investigates these presentations carefully. Biofilm-aware testing. Immune and microbiome assessment. Treatment combined and individualised to what the testing shows. He uses specialised culture and sensitivity testing, biofilm-disrupting botanical compounds, and carefully sequenced antimicrobial strategies.

Integrative supportive care during cancertreatment

Always positioned as supportive care alongside standard cancer treatment, not as a replacement for it. What integrative support typically covers in this setting: nutritional assessment and dietary support during treatment; intravenous nutrient therapy where clinically appropriate, as part of an individualised supportive plan; supportive care addressing nutritional depletion and treatment-related symptoms where appropriate; targeted supplementation tailored to the patient and reviewed for interactions with their conventional treatment; advice on lifestyle factors that support resilience through treatment. Patients with a complex medical history seeking IV therapy in this setting should book a 1-hour Mojo New Patient Appointment with Dr Varipatis. This allows time for a detailed review of the clinical situation and the current treatment plan.

"My role with patients undergoing cancer treatment is supportive. The standard cancer treatment is what treats the cancer. I offer integrative support alongside that, helping the patient maintain nutritional status, manage side effects where possible, and stay as functional as possible through what is usually a demanding period. The work supports the patient through their standard treatment, including between cycles of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It is never positioned as an alternative to that treatment."

Assessed using the biological framework that emerging research supports. Microclot formation. Spike protein persistence. Immune dysregulation. Mitochondrial dysfunction. EBV or other viral reactivation. He distinguishes between Long COVID (PASC), post-viral fatigue syndrome, and ME/CFS. They overlap but they require different clinical approaches. His Long COVID work draws on the 2025 PNAS study confirming elevated oxidative stress as a shared biological feature
of both ME/CFS and Long COVID. Targeted IV nutrient therapy plays specific roles in mitochondrial and immune support, individually prescribed and reviewed at consultation.

Off-label medication review

For select patients with chronic inflammation, autoimmune conditions, Long COVID, and chronic pain. Where indicated, Dr Varipatis can discuss whether off-label use of certain established medications may be appropriate as part of an individualised clinical plan. The relevant evidence is discussed openly. Any prescription decision is made jointly with the patient after thorough clinical assessment, with full discussion of evidence, risks, and alternatives.

Dr Varipatis has been administering IV nutrient therapy since the 1990s, guided by the principles of ACNEM and AIMN. All infusions are individually prescribed based on clinical assessment and relevant pathology. No infusion is administered without individual clinical assessment. Specific clinical applications are discussed at consultation. For the full IV booking pathway, see IV Therapy.

FrequentlyAsked Questions.

What kind of patient is DrVaripatis best suited to?

Dr Varipatis is most effective with patients who have complex, chronic, or
multi-system presentations that have not been adequately explained or
resolved through standard care. Patients with heavy metal exposure history,
chronic infection, Long COVID, those seeking integrative supportive care
during cancer treatment, or unexplained complex multi-system symptoms
tend to benefit most from his particular clinical depth.

"The patient who gets the most from a consultation with me is usually the one with the thickest file. They have been everywhere. They have been investigated extensively. There is still something unexplained. That is where the deeper level of clinical investigation that integrative and environmental medicine enables tends to find something meaningful."

He begins with the history. Not just the symptom, but the full timeline of
health events, exposures, and life context. He looks for the pattern: when
things changed, what else changed at the same time, what has been tried,
and what the response has been. He then orders targeted investigation
based on that picture, not a standard panel applied to every patient.

"The history is the diagnosis. Or at least, it tells me where to look. Most unexplained chronic presentations have a clear narrative if you take the time to hear it. When did this start. What else was happening at that time. Has there been any period of improvement and if so what was different then. Those questions, asked carefully, almost always point toward a mechanism. The testing confirms it."

Chelation therapy uses chelating agents to bind toxic metals in the blood and tissues and facilitate their excretion through the kidneys. Dr Varipatis uses it in patients where provoked urine testing confirms an elevated body burden of lead, mercury, arsenic, or cadmium. He never recommends chelation based on symptoms or history alone. Every chelation course includes concurrent essential mineral replacement and renal function monitoring.

"The first thing I explain to every patient considering chelation is that it is not something I recommend lightly or based on clinical suspicion. It requires testing. The provoked urine test gives a genuinely accurate picture of body burden. When that test shows significant elevation and the patient’s symptoms are consistent with metal toxicity, chelation is often the most direct intervention available. When the test is negative, I am glad we tested before treating."

Yes. He offers supportive care for patients undergoing cancer treatment, positioned alongside, before, or after their standard treatment rather than as a replacement for it. The work supports nutritional status, helps manage some treatment-related effects, and supports patients between cycles of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Specific interventions are discussed individually at consultation. He does not treat patients seeking to replace standard cancer treatment with integrative care.
