Mojo Klinik · Neutral Bay Sydney
Chelation therapy.
Medically supervised chelation. Following appropriate testing.
An established medical treatment for confirmed heavy metal burden.
Performed only after the Heavy Metal Initial Appointment confirms it is indicated.
Months, not weeks. Monitored throughout.
SOUND FAMILIAR?
You will recognise yourself in some of these.
Most patients arrive carrying one or more of these.
- You have completed a Heavy Metal Initial Appointment and provoked urine testing has confirmed elevated metal burden
- Your clinical picture is consistent with heavy metal toxicity (mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium)
- You want medically supervised chelation, not an unsupervised home protocol
- You want a doctor with formal credentialing in metal toxicology supervising your programme
- You are willing to commit to months of paced, monitored treatment
- You understand chelation removes essential minerals alongside toxic ones and need monitoring and supplementation built in
- Your child has a suspected lower-level metal burden and you want a paediatric appropriate pathway
Chelation is not a wellness treatment. It is a medical treatment for a confirmed clinical problem. Testing first, treatment second.
WHAT CHELATION THERAPY ACTUALLY IS
A medical treatment using specific chelating agents to bind and remove toxic heavy metals from the body.
Used in clinical medicine since the 1940s, originally to treat lead poisoning in naval workers. Established standard of care for confirmed heavy metal poisoning. At Mojo Klinik, used in patients with confirmed chronic toxic metal burden following appropriate testing.
A supervised chelation Australia programme is structured, monitored, and paced. Specific chelating agents are matched to the metals identified at testing and to your individual situation. The choice of agent, route, dose, and frequency are determined at consultation.
"Safe chelation is supervised chelation. The risks are manageable when the testing is right, the monitoring is right, and essential minerals are replaced concurrently. The risks become unmanageable when any of those are skipped. We do not skip any of them."
Dr Emmanuel Varipatis, MBBS FACNEM FASLM
WHEN CHELATION IS CONSIDERED
Chelation is not a wellness treatment, a routine detox, or something we recommend without strong clinical indication.
Step 1
After a Heavy Metal Initial
Appointment
Comprehensive testing identifies whether you have a metal burden that warrants chelation, which metals are involved, and what the right approach is for your situation.
Step 2
When provoked urine testing
confirms significant metal burden
And when the clinical picture is consistent with metal toxicity.
Step 3
As part of a structured,
individualised plan
With monitoring throughout: renal function, essential mineral status, and metal levels.
WHAT CHELATION TREATMENT LOOKS LIKE
The shape of a typical adult programme.
The specifics are individualised at consultation following the Heavy Metal Initial Appointment.
Frequency
- Typically weekly to monthly, depending on the agent and your specific situation
Duration
- Months, not weeks
- Programmes vary based on burden and response
Monitoring
- Renal function, essential mineral status, and metal levels monitored throughout
Essential mineral replacement
- Chelation removes essential minerals alongside toxic ones
- Concurrent replacement is part of every protocol
Nutritional support
- Detoxification pathway support to assist the body’s clearance
What to expect during treatment: detox reactions. Chelation mobilises stored metals from tissues so the body can excrete them. As metals move through the system, some patients experience transient reactions: fatigue, low energy, or feeling flat in the days after a session; headache; brief return or worsening of original symptoms; bowel changes; mild metallic taste or urinary changes after the dose. These usually settle within 24 to 72 hours and are reviewed at follow-up. Adults and children follow different pathways: pharmaceutical chelation is generally reserved for paediatric cases of acute, high-level toxicity managed in a hospital setting. For children with a suspected lower-level burden, our approach is nutritional and dietary, supporting the body’s
natural clearance pathways with hair tissue mineral analysis, exposure source reduction, targeted nutritional repletion, dietary intervention, gut and bowel support, and gentle binders where appropriate. We coordinate with the child’s paediatrician and GP.

Is this approach right for you?
IT'S A FIT IF
- You have completed a Heavy Metal Initial Appointment and testing has confirmed elevated metal burden
- You want medically supervised chelation with full monitoring throughout
- You are willing to commit to months of paced, structured treatment
- You want a doctor with formal credentialing in metal toxicology
NOT A FIT IF
- You want chelation without testing first
- You want a wellness IV or detox protocol with no medical assessment
- You are looking for rapid resolution: chelation is months, not weeks
- You want unsupervised home chelation
HOW TO START
Two ways to start with us.
The first step is always a Heavy Metal Initial Appointment. Chelation is only considered after this assessment.
OPTION 1
Heavy Metal Initial Appointment with Dr Emmanuel Varipatis
- 1 Hour
- $500 in-person or Zoom
Privately billed (no Medicare rebate on this specific appointment)
A detailed, investigative assessment with Dr Varipatis. 30+ years in metal
toxicology. Highly analytical, integrative approach reviewing your history,
symptoms, and risk factors. Where appropriate, a medically guided plan
including chelation.
OPTION 2
Heavy Metal Initial Appointment with Dr Maria Mackey
- 1 Hour
- $650 in-person or Zoom
Privately billed (no Medicare rebate on this specific appointment)
A comprehensive medical assessment focused on heavy metal toxicity and environmental exposures. Dr Mackey takes a detailed history, explores potential sources, and organises appropriate testing. Where indicated, chelation therapy may be recommended.
For full pricing, see Consultation Fees. For the underlying clinical territory, see Heavy Metal Toxicity. Telehealth available Australia-wide for follow-ups. The Heavy Metal Initial Appointment is the one in-person initial that does not carry a Medicare rebate. The Medicare Schedule does not recognise Heavy Metal Chelation as a rebatable. For your first appointment, in-person at our Neutral Bay clinic is strongly recommended.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions.
How much does chelation therapy cost at Mojo Klinik?
Chelation cost is determined at consultation, after the Heavy Metal Initial
Appointment confirms it is indicated. The Initial Appointment itself is $500
with Dr Varipatis or $650 with Dr Mackey, 1 hour, in-person or by Zoom,
privately billed (no Medicare rebate on this specific appointment). The
chelation programme itself is quoted at the Initial Appointment, after Dr
Varipatis or Dr Mackey has reviewed your testing and determined the right
agent, route, frequency, and duration for your specific situation.
"Chelation cost varies because the protocol varies. The agent, the route, the frequency, the duration, all of those are determined by what the testing shows. I quote the full programme cost at the Initial Appointment so patients know what they are committing to before they decide to proceed."
Dr Emmanuel Varipatis, MBBS FACNEM FASLM
Is chelation therapy safe?
Chelation carries risks. With appropriate testing, monitoring, and essential
mineral replacement, those risks are manageable. Without them, they are
not. Mojo Klinik chelation is performed only after thorough assessment and
with full monitoring throughout (renal function, essential minerals,
response to treatment).
How do I know if chelation is right for me?
The Heavy Metal Initial Appointment is designed to answer this. Comprehensive testing identifies whether you have a metal burden that warrants chelation, which metals are involved, and what the right approach is for your situation. Chelation is not offered without a clear test-confirmed clinical indication.
"I never recommend chelation based on symptoms or history alone. Testing first, treatment second. If the provoked urine test does not show significant elevation, chelation is not on the table. We are looking for a different driver."
Dr Emmanuel Varipatis, MBBS FACNEM FASLM
How long does a chelation programme take?
Months. The exact duration depends on which metals are involved, the burden identified, and your response to treatment. We do not promise a fixed timeline. Active treatment is typically 3 to 12 months depending on burden and response.
"Chelation is months, not weeks. The metals took years to accumulate and they take time to mobilise safely. Trying to rush chelation is one of the more reliable ways to get into trouble. Patients who do best are the ones who pace themselves through the programme and trust the timeline."
Dr Emmanuel Varipatis, MBBS FACNEM FASLM
Will I lose essential minerals?
Chelating agents remove essential minerals alongside toxic ones. We
monitor essential minerals and replace them throughout the programme.
This is a core part of safe chelation, not an optional extra.
What are the side effects?
Specific side effects depend on the chelating agent used. They are discussed
in full at consultation, alongside the monitoring required and alternative
approaches. Transient detox reactions (fatigue, headache, brief symptom
return) are common and usually settle within 24 to 72 hours.
Is the chelation pathway different for children?
Yes. Pharmaceutical chelation is generally reserved for paediatric cases of acute, high-level toxicity managed in a hospital setting. For children with a suspected lower-level burden, our approach is nutritional and dietary, supporting the body’s natural clearance pathways.
